"Vivid Gallery: "
The subject of this exhibition is to showcase different areas of the art of Jończyk Julian (1930-2007), in which he created. So we'll see matter painting, photography, photomontage, conceptual, installation, performance art and poetry. Jończyk was a member of the Group called Nowa Huta (since 1956) and Cracovian Group Art Association - Grupa Krakowska (since 1961), an artist "in love with the light", and the main material he used was neon.
"Transfiguration", was in fact the performance made in Krzysztofory in Krakow in 1999, in which he referred to the problem of transformation. It was both an artistic transformation of matter, but also the metaphorical transformation of the artist himself, transforming his identity. In its scenario, the performance Jończyk Julian remembers from the perspective of a Gnostic about the androginism of a work of art. This combination of male and female elements in the work of this artist is visible and important, inspires to revise his art, and rethink the heritage of Polish modern art.
After his death, his brother Jan Jończyk generously gave the legacy of the artist to the National Museum in Krakow, which took care of the artwork and archives, developing them gradually. This will help to deepen the knowledge about the artist, the Group Nowa Huta, Grupa Krakowska and, in general, Polish modern art.
Developing the legacy of Julian Jończyk is part of a larger project called the Archive of Artists, in which the Museum staff deal with the broad artistic archival.
